Mars Membrane. 2019. Aluminum, plastic, sweat, performance.
Mars Membrane is a performative installation, imagining a series of remediating processes to remove heavy metals from the upper Arkansas river, polluted by industrial effluent. Human volunteers become the vessels for purification, consuming the toxic waters, then sweating and urinating out decontaminated liquid. The prototype repository is a personal armature, where water is collected and filtered. When the bodies have expired due to heavy metal poisoning the vessels are sent to Mars to decompose in an alien landscape.
